After the order for the chandeliers in the Saint Benigne Cathedral in Dijon, matali crasset is taking a look at another historic monument, the Fontevraud Abbey.

Losing one’s way and finding it again, this is the way the surprising visit is suggested at Fontevraud. By drawing inspiration from this principle, somewhat illogical in a historic monument, matali crasset was chosen to design the new signage for Fontevraud, as a network of lines, whether visible or invisible, which outline the various paths revealed to the visitors, without imposing anything. Suggesting, practical, discreet and amusing. The inauguration will take place with the artist present during the Cité idéale (Ideal City).

A city which runs through History, and which creates the link between its rich past and its present history and becomes the setting for culture and encounters. When the contemporary city of Fontevraud encourages its visitors to create their own visiting route depending on what they wish for in history and walks, they suggest a signage project that is simple, clear and useful.

Centre Georges Pompidou – Paris : le blobterre de matali

They speak of themselves, « blobterre« , « extratoofs« , « domosquelettes« , matali crasset invents the words, invents words.

Which is to say that she invents a world, a behaviour, that she breaks through language boundaries and that she takes over their one. The children’s world. Permis de construire (Building Permit) at the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine (Architecture and Heritage Centre) 2008, La maison des petits (The children’s house) at the CENTQUATRE in 2009, matali did not need to have two of them, to appreciate their expectations and also their joy; « children have the gift of exhausting all the facets, they do not pretend, they do not know what this means ».

matali crasset’s new exhibition presented in the Galerie des Enfants (Children’s Gallery) of the Centre Pompidou, is once again an opportunity to meet children – and those who accompany them.

An artificial garden, an area which plays on indoors and outdoors, a place dedicated to the spirit of exploration, creation and imagination.

The Blobterre is a new work, a fiction matali has invented. A  world apart, with its logic, its systems, its plant elements, its inhabitants, its odours, its own noises… Entering into this world means being ready to listen, to participate in its development and to look for its place. « A moment in life ».

In the heart of the Meuse (55), in Lorraine, tucked within the 5000-hectares forest of the villages Dompcevrin, Fresnes-au-mont, Lahaymeix, Nicey-sur-Aire, Pierrefitte-sur-Aire and Ville-devant-Belrain, along the Sentier du Vent pathway, the designer matali crasset has designed and built four feral-type houses, her “maisons sylvestres”. The cabins are centrally-positioned works of art in the forest. You can relax, dream, eat, watch but mainly just live an unequalled experience.

An experimental project, and an experimental method. The proposition brought forth by matali crasset with the inhabitants and volunteers of Le Vent des Forêts consisted of making the forest a living matter, revealing its enkindling magic. For this, matali explains the necessity of “humbly confronting ourselves with the forest to understand and discern its being”.
